He's partner of Studio Legale Catalano Penalisti Associati law firm since 1993.
He deals exclusively with criminal law cases, with special reference to professional liabilities, economics criminal laws, intellectual property rights, crimes involved with IT and new technologies, defense of privacy and personal data.
Since the early nineties, he has been harangued in the Courts main issues related to file sharing (the famous case on the download - Cass. Pen. 149/07- and the case Peppermint) and ISP liability (he was member of the defense team in the Google vs. Vividown case), so that he has acquired a concrete experience in the field about criminal aspects of the legislation on copyright and ITC laws.
He contributes with some on-line journals, with the paper magazine "Diritto dell'Informazione e dell'Informatica", published by the Calamandrei Foundation and he edited with the publishing houses Giappichelli, UTET Giurdica, Egea ed Aracne.
He has a personal blog on ilPOST.
He's fellow of NEXA Center for Internet & Society at the Politecnico di Torino.
He sit as a speaker in numerous conferences on topics related to new technologies.
Carlo graduated, cum laude, in 1988 at the Faculty of Law at University of Turin.
In 1991 he passed at the Court of Appeal of Turin the qualifying examination to practice as a lawyer, with honors in criminal matters (50/50 ).
In 1993 he became partner of Studio Legale Catalano Penalisti Associati law firm.
In 2003 he was authorized to practice before the Superior Courts.
He's fellow at NEXA Center for Internet & Society at the Politecnico di Torino.
From 2003 to 2011 he was a member of the Informatics Commission of the Bar of Torino and actually he's member of the Criminal Affairs Commission.
He collaborates, by holding lessons during the years 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2012, with the "Technical and professional training School for public defenders", a school organized by the Council of the Bar of Turin and the association Camera Penale "Vittorio Chiusano" of the western Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta.
With the training company Mediacampus S.p.a. he held during the years 2006 and 2007 classes in criminal matters in courses aimed at preparing for the legal profession, based in Turin.
He collaborates with several on-line journal and with the printed magazine "Il Diritto dell'Informazione e dell'Informatica", published by the Calamandrei Foundation.
With the publishing house UTET Giuridica, in the book "Il diritto dei marchi d'impresa", directed by Nicola Bottero and Massimo Travostino, he edited a contribution entitled "La tutela penale del marchio"; on the legal journal Giurisprudenza Italiana, n. 10/2011, in the monograph "Il diritto d'autore nell'era digitale", directed by Marco Ricolfi, he published an article entitled "Difese e sanzioni penali"; in the "Manuale di informatica giuridica e diritto delle nuove tecnologie", a chapter titled "I reati informatici" (Cyber crimes).
In the series Digitalica, edited by Giappichelli and directed by Ugo Pagallo, within the volume VII, "Copyright digitale: l'impatto delle nuove tecnologie tra economia e diritto" he published a contribution entitled "La tutela penale del copyright: un'onda confusa e asincrona".
Together with her law firm partner, Monica A. Senor, in the book "Marketing e Diritto", edited by Egea, he published a box entitled "La privacy e le responsabilità variabili" (Privacy and liability variable).
